Process of hiring foreign worker is hard because direct hiring is prohibited for construction sector unless your KDN approval is more than 100 workers. In fact, contractor is forced to hire foreign worker through outsourcing company, Construction Labour Exchange Centre Bhd (CLAB). Therefore, what’s the benefit? First, you can transfer workers to other contractor easily with CLAB if necessary because the permit owner is CLAB. Then, you don’t need to declare project at state immigration unless your working visa is issued by the related state immigration.
Here’re the important things you should know when hiring foreign workers from CLAB.
Permit Owner | CLAB | Direct Owner |
|---|---|---|
New Application Fees (RM) | 750 | NIL |
Application of Calling Visa | 30 days or more | 14 days or less |
Renewal Fees (RM) | 310 | NIL |
Collection of Working VIsa | 30 days or more | 14 days or less |
Submit renewal at the latest | 14 days | 1 day (not recommended) |
Penalty Fees if late renewal submission (RM) | 500 | NO (if renewal is made before expiry) |
Application of Check Out Memo (COM) | 14 days or more | 1 day (not recommended) |
Besides that, CLAB has three (3) customer service office at :-
- Prai, Pulau Pinang
- Pusat Bandar Damansara, Kuala Lumpur
- Johor Bahru, Johor
As a result, contractor is hard to get support from CLAB when foreign workers are arrested by immigration/police officer in any cause. Normally, direct owner can handle on their own for such circumstances. In conclusion, contractor are advisable to hire foreign workers directly because you will save money and time for direct hiring.
